This One Change Made My Content 10x More Engaging
Why No One Watches Your Videos (And How to Fix It)
If you've ever posted a video and watched people click away almost instantly, you're not alone—I struggled with this too.
I've been growing my audience on Reddit, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat, all with one main goal: getting more people to this newsletter (the one you're reading right now! 😊).
But my early videos? They flopped. People weren’t sticking around.
At first, I thought it was the algorithm, bad timing, or maybe my editing. But after experimenting for a while, I realised the real issue: my speaking skills on camera were terrible, but a simple technique fixed it.
When you're new to filming yourself, it feels unnatural. You might try to copy big creators, overthink your tone, or force a "presenter voice." I did all of that—and it made my content feel inauthentic.
So what changed?
I stopped trying to sound like an influencer and just talked like myself.
I treated the camera as if I was chatting with a friend, stopped worrying about perfect pronunciation, and focused on making my points in a relaxed, natural way.
The result? One of my best-performing videos across multiple platforms.

Snapchat and Insta previously only got 10 views now its 132 from that simple trick!

Watched full video increased from 3% to 22%

Youtube previously had views in the 10s and 20s now within a day I got 132!
Here’s the TL;DR:
Be yourself—ditch the influencer voice.
Relax and talk like you're speaking to a friend.
Combine this with valuable content and a strong video idea.
And if you want to get better at speaking on camera, I challenge you to talk about a random topic on video every day for 30 days. It’ll feel awkward at first, but I guarantee it’ll improve your content (and your confidence).
