The Unethical Marketing Trick

Amazingly simple and effective

When I created my AI SEO app, one of the first things I wondered was how to effectively showcase it to the world.

At first, I tried a few strategies: attending B2B events on Eventbrite (which worked well for B2B companies), posting on Reddit (with moderate success), and answering questions on Quora.

While these approaches weren’t bad, I eventually stumbled upon something far more effective—something I now consider a gold mine: Facebook Groups.

Before you exit out, let me explain why this approach works. The key lies in one important strategy: don’t just join any Facebook group that’s relevant to your product. Instead, join your competitors' Facebook groups.

Here’s why this strategy works so well:

  1. Most group members are already paying money to your competitors.

  2. They are highly interested in finding a solution to their problem.

With these two points in mind, the next step is simple: send a private message to these members. Here’s the message I used:

“Hey, I just created a tool that's very similar to [competitor's name], and I wanted to ask if you'd be interested in being one of the free early access users?”

OR

“Hey, I just built a tool like [competitor's name], and I’d love to get your opinion on it.”

This message works really well for several reasons:

  • It’s casual and non-salesy, which helps it feel natural.

  • It gives you the opportunity to connect with a potential lead or customer.

  • It helps you gather valuable data, like job professions and specific needs, to better refine your product.

  • It expands brand awareness by getting your product in front of interested individuals.

Finally, make sure to target people who have recently commented on posts or the original post creators in the group. These are the individuals who are actively engaging and most likely to be receptive to your offer.
